The sweet smell of roses filled the air. The symbol of the Earth's Royal Family, like the Crescent Moon was the mark of the Moon Court, it was only natural that they dominated the gardens of the Earth Palace.
A young man dressed in loose fitting pants and tunic stood in the center of the gardens, observing a small creature that danced amongst the flowers.
It had wings like a butterfly's and the body of a young girl. And it was tiny, standing only few inches high. He watched it flit from one flower to the next. He heard the sounds of approaching footsteps, and turning towards it, he saw a young man in armor.
"Endymion," he murmured softly, a smile playing on his lips. He then added in a louder voice, "Good morning, Your Highness."
Though formal, the words were spoken in an intimate tone, the voice having an almost purring quality to it.
"Good morning to you as well, Summoner Azurite," the prince replied.
"How was the trip to the moon?" Azurite asked. "Did you see the princess?"
"That is what I wanted to talk to you about, Endymion began. He then paused as if he couldn't find the words to say what wanted. He looked at his companion's eager smile, and knew that what he had to say would shatter it. An uncomfortable silence lingered for several moments, and he looked to the gardens for a diversion. He noticed the winged creature. "What is that?"
"It doesn't have a name," Azurite replied. "Its kind is too simple for that. The lowest of the elemental spirits, we usually call them sprites. I enjoy watching them play in the garden."
"Is it dangerous?" the prince asked, watching the creature with avid fascination. Azurite excelled in summoning unique, beautiful, and when needed, dangerous creatures from the most extraordinary of places, some even from beyond dimensional boundaries.
"One? No. But thousands are a completely different matter. They're very easy to Call." A mischievous smirk appeared on the mage's lips. "It can watch that we are not disturbed. We can discuss the usefulness of the creature later." He raised his hand gently touching the prince's face with his fingertips.
Ednymion was tempted to seek solace in his embrace one last time, but it would only make his decision that much more difficult for the both of them. He caught the hand in a firm grip and removed it from his cheek. The mage's face showed the utter surprise he felt in response to that action.
"No. This has to end."
"It's the princess, isn't it?" The mage's voice was soft, but there was an underlying fury in it.
We both knew that this would have to end eventually, the prince replied, trying to sound reasonable. "A prince must sire an Heir."
"The continuity of Royal Line," Azurite sneered. "Hasn't anyone told those old fools that Silence is coming? Saturn has been called!"
A dark aura gathered around Azurite, responding to the mage's emotions. Ednymion just looked at him, waiting for his fit to end. For a moment it seemed as if he would lash out with his power, but eventually the fury waned from his eyes, replaced with longing and sorrow.
"Can we. one last time?" he begged shamelessly, and Endymion could almost hear his hearth breaking.
"No. It is better this way," the prince sternly replied.
He turned and left, leaving the Summoner alone in the gardens. Azurite stared after the armored figure, a single tear trailing down his cheek.
And oblivious to the two broken hearts, the sprite played joyfully amongst the roses.

SPLASH.
As the stream of ice cold water woke Ranma from a dream, he could feel his body shifting as the curse activated. He looked up and there, holding an empty bucket, stood Akane. He knew that he was a difficult to wake up, but personally he thought the ice cubes were a bit much.
"What'cha do that for, you Uncute tomboy?!" Ranma yelled. "It's Saturday!"
It was annoying enough that she woke him every weekday in the same manner, if she managed to get to him before his father threw him out the window that is, but did she have to do it on weekends too?
"Ranma you jerk!" she shouted back. How could he forget? She had been planning for this all week, even going so far as to pay her sister to keep Ranma's other admirers busy. "You promised you'd go with me to visit my cousin Ami."
She was quite eager to visit her cousin. She used to be quite close to her, they used to go together from time to time. They had always been close to each other. Every time they got together, they'd wear the same outfits as a joke, since, even though Ami was a year younger than Akane, they looked enough alike to pass as twins. Unfortunately, they weren't able to spend as much time together as they would have liked, but between Akane's martial arts and Ami's studying, neither of them had much free time. And ever since this whole mess with Ranma had started, she'd barely had time to talk to her cousin, nevermind visiting her. Ranma had better not embarrass her in front of her cousin, Akane threatened silently, or she'd mallet him into the next prefecture.
