Kanata's thoughts //

Today, in Tokyo, it certainly is strange to see white-faced women in bright kimono. It wasn't just a few stares she received entering the fancy apartment complex...

"Sero! Sero, where are you? My mother will kill me if I'm not back shortly. Sero? You have your headphones too loud, don't you?" The beautiful geisha knocked twice on the black velvet covered door before opening it. The small youth perched on the bed hadn't even heard her. She banged the wall soundly three times. The many posters on the wall didn't so much as fluster, although the large Cd collection shuddered a bit, that roused him.

"What, Kanata?" He took off his headphones and looked at his sister quizzically from between his fluorescent-covered forearms.

"My fan Sero, I need it for practice" She had lost patience, she stood there in full kimono and makeup, only awaiting her fan. She had many, but this house was much closer than her okiya*.

"Oh, sorry about that, hold on, I think it's in the kitchen." He rose from his bed to go fetch the fan for her, she stopped him by grabbing his face and turning it to her.

"Brother, you are wearing as much makeup as I am…perhaps you should have been a Kabuki actor?" She did think he knew how to apply it well. Actually, her lessons hadn't hurt much either.

"No way, you know that stuff isn't for me."

"Yes, too much art involved." She smiled at him and released his face. She sighed as she watched him walk down the hall. //You're such a wonderful boy…if only your talent had some aim. I've been practicing with you for years, you're a skilled martial artist as well an artist and a dancer, but yet you do nothing with it. You have yet to truly hone any one of those skills. You may not think a geisha is the way for me to use mine, but the skills I learn there help in the others.//

Sero returned with the fan and handed it, folded, into Kanata's outstretched hand.

"Thank you very much, little brother." She bowed formally to him.

"Your welcome dear sister" He bowed to her. This was a little joke they had together about Kanata's geishahood and how she always turned to the entertainer without thinking.

"I still have some time left, may I ask brother, how have you been doing, it has been a whole two weeks since I have last seen or spoken to you!"

Sero smiled at this, it was true, between their night lives, little else had room. "Oh, the usual, dancing, practicing, reading, hearing old men and women make comments about my clothing."

"Oh, it isn't that outlandish when compared to many costumes in traditional culture." Kanata looked her brother up and down. With his raver jeans, his silver tight shirt and his bracelets, she supposed some people could consider him strange. That was alright, she was none too unfamiliar with the stares of others. "Well, I cannot be late, Stop by the teahouse if you are going by, I might be there."

Sero smiled and waved at her down the hall. What sister couldn't love a brother that proudly wore a "GEISHA ROCK" pin with her picture? She just hoped his destiny had much pleasantness in store for him.
